About Us
Stefani Kostoff
bFa, dance performance
A little bit about me. Hello, my name is Stefani Kostoff and I love to teach ballet. I began my ballet education at the age of five. This was followed soon after by Highland Dancing, and later, Jazz classes. Growing up in Port Hope, most of my time was occupied preparing for ballet exams, medal tests, competitions, recitals and other performances.
As such, when the time came for post secondary education, I auditioned and was accepted into York University’s Fine Arts department, as a dance major. My next four years were an intensive study of dance, with daily classes in ballet and modern technique, music, choreography and dance history. This was rounded out with credits in theatre, visual arts, and even puppetry.
After I earned my BFA, I recognized that for me the true magic of dance was found in the studio, so, in 1993 I became a provisionally registered teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance. After the required three years of further study, I passed my teaching exam, giving me Registered Teacher Status. Since then I have been quietly providing high quality ballet training in Port Hope and surrounding communities.
As a ballet teacher, I encourage my students to work toward technical excellence. However, I truly believe that ballet can be for everyone. I’ve seen first hand that fantastic dancers come in many shapes and sizes.
I also recognize the importance of confidence, creativity and artistry in dance, and in life in general. I take care to nurture and develop these attributes in my classes. I’ve kept in touch with many of my former, long term students over the years. A respectable number of them have gone on to dance professionally or into dance related careers. Others have rewarding lives in a wide variety of fields. I like to think that their time in my studio contributed to their success.
After a few years hiatus, I am refreshed, and excited to be back in the studio. I really hope you will join me.
